Hematyt – uziemienie, stabilność i koncentracja

How to choose a hematite crystal
Hematite is known for its dark grey colour, metallic shine and weight. A relatively small polished stone can feel surprisingly substantial in the hand because hematite contains a high proportion of iron.
Its appearance ranges from reflective silver-grey to darker charcoal. Raw hematite can also appear earthy red, reddish brown or nearly black, depending on its formation and surface.
Choose a piece according to its finish, intended use and how much you expect to handle or wear it.
What does hematite look like?
Polished hematite usually has a smooth, reflective surface with a dark metallic colour. It may resemble metal even though it is a mineral.
Raw specimens can look very different. They may have an uneven metallic surface, rounded formations or an earthy appearance without the mirror-like finish seen in polished stones.
One of hematite’s identifying features is its reddish-brown streak. Even metallic grey specimens produce this colour when tested on an appropriate unglazed streak plate. This test should not be performed on jewellery or a finished product, as it may scratch or damage the surface.
Polished hematite, raw specimens or jewellery?
A polished hematite stone is compact and easy to keep on a desk, shelf or in a protective pouch. Its weight and smooth finish make it feel different from many lighter quartz varieties.
Raw hematite appeals to mineral collectors because it shows more of the original formation and texture. Some specimens can have delicate or uneven surfaces and should be handled carefully.
Hematite jewellery is popular for its dark, neutral appearance. Bracelets and necklaces can work with both understated and more layered styles.
When choosing hematite, consider:
- whether you prefer a polished or raw surface
- how reflective or dark you want the piece to be
- whether it will be displayed, carried or worn
- the listed dimensions and weight
- the materials used in jewellery components
- whether the product is genuine hematite or a manufactured alternative
Is hematite magnetic?
Genuine hematite is generally not strongly attracted to an ordinary magnet, although some specimens may show weak magnetic behaviour.
Products sold as “magnetic hematite” are often made from a manufactured ferrite material sometimes called hematine rather than naturally formed hematite. These materials may have a similar dark metallic appearance but are not mineralogically the same.
Magnetism alone is not enough to identify every product, so check the material information provided on the individual listing.
The traditional meaning of hematite
In crystal traditions, hematite is associated with grounding, stability, focus and practical decision-making. It is often chosen for periods when daily life feels busy or when a task requires sustained attention.
Some people keep hematite nearby while working or studying as a reminder to return to the present task. Others choose it simply because they enjoy its substantial weight and metallic appearance.
These meanings are based on crystal traditions and personal practices. Learn more in our guide to the meaning of hematite.
Hematite for work and study
Hematite’s compact size and understated colour make it a practical choice for desks and study areas. A polished stone takes up very little space beside a computer, notebook or planner.
You might keep hematite nearby when:
- working on a task that requires concentration
- preparing for an important meeting
- studying in a busy environment
- organising plans and priorities
- creating a dark or metallic mineral display

Hematite jewellery
Hematite jewellery has a steel-grey shine that combines easily with black, white, silver and earth-toned clothing. Beaded bracelets are especially popular because the polished surface creates a consistent metallic look.
Before choosing jewellery, check:
- the bracelet or necklace measurements
- bead or pendant size
- fastening and stringing materials
- other listed metal components
- whether the product contains genuine hematite
- the product-specific care instructions
Hematite can be brittle despite its metallic appearance. Remove jewellery before sports, physical work or other activities where it could receive a hard impact.
Crystals that pair well with hematite
Hematite combines naturally with other dark crystals traditionally associated with grounding and protection.
Black tourmaline introduces a more textured black appearance and is commonly connected with protection and personal boundaries.
Smoky quartz adds transparent brown and grey tones and is traditionally associated with grounding and balance.
Obsidian creates a dark, glassy contrast and is also commonly included in protective crystal combinations.

Is hematite suitable for beginners?
Hematite is an approachable first crystal because it is easy to recognise, compact and available in practical polished forms and jewellery.
Its traditional meaning is also straightforward, but you do not need to choose it for symbolism. Its metallic surface, neutral colour and substantial weight are equally valid reasons.

Hematite properties and care
Hematite is iron oxide and measures approximately 5–6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. It can scratch or break if dropped, despite feeling dense and solid.
Moisture left on the surface may contribute to oxidation, especially on raw or damaged areas. Keep hematite dry and remove jewellery before showering or swimming.
For safe care:
- wipe the surface with a clean, dry cloth
- avoid soaking hematite in water
- remove jewellery before showering, swimming and exercising
- keep it away from perfume, lotions and cleaning products
- protect it from drops and hard impacts
- store polished pieces separately to reduce scratches
- avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaning
