What does ethical sourcing mean to us?

For us, ethical and responsible production means aiming for sustainable and fair practices in raw material sourcing, production processes and working conditions.

For stones and crystals, this includes the environmental impact of mining, working conditions, transparency in the supply chain and fair compensation for products and labour.

A completely traceable supply chain is unfortunately not always possible within the crystal industry. This is why supplier transparency and access to information about product origin and production are particularly important to us.

How do we choose our suppliers?

Amethyst Cat sources products from established wholesalers and suppliers whose practices and transparency we assess before beginning cooperation.

Our suppliers state that they visit the mines and production facilities from which their products originate, and some share photographs and information about mines, production and product origins on their websites and social media channels.

We favour suppliers who are able to provide information about product origins and whose way of working appears open and long-term. We also aim to pay appropriate prices for our products, and the lowest possible purchase price is not our primary criterion when choosing suppliers.

Can we guarantee the origin of every stone?

No. We do not personally visit the mines or every production facility, so we cannot independently verify the entire supply chain of every product from the mine to our store.

What we can do is choose our partners carefully, request information about origins and favour suppliers whose operations are as transparent as possible.

When more detailed origin information is available for a product, we aim to share it with our customers.

Authenticity and treatments

Amethyst Cat aims to describe product materials and relevant treatments as clearly as possible.

If a product is dyed, coated, heat-treated, synthetic or otherwise altered in a way that is relevant to the nature of the product, we aim to state this on the product page.

Environmental responsibility

The environmental impact of stones and crystals cannot be completely eliminated. They are mined in different parts of the world, and the stones sold by Amethyst Cat reach us from outside Finland.

For us, environmental responsibility therefore means practical choices that help reduce unnecessary material use and make efficient use of materials that already exist.

Packaging

Orders are packed in Finland. We use cardboard shipping boxes and aim to favour packaging made with recycled materials.

Whenever practical, we also reuse suitable packaging materials received with our wholesale deliveries.

Protecting products properly remains important. Adequate packaging helps prevent breakage, replacement shipments and the additional materials and transport they require. We also encourage customers to reuse or recycle packaging according to local recycling guidelines.

Shipping

We aim to pack products from the same order efficiently into one shipment and choose packaging that is appropriately sized for the products.

International transport inevitably has an environmental impact, and we do not describe our deliveries as impact-free or make unsupported claims such as carbon neutrality.
